Duane “Dewey” A. Walsberg, 87, Borup, MN, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at the Fargo Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Dewey was born on March 5, 1925, in Grand Forks, N.D, the son of Victor Alfred and Yvonne (Gregoire) Walsberg. He moved to Thief River Falls, MN, with his parents and later finished high school at the Northwest School of Agriculture, Crookston, MN. He joined the army in 1944, during World War II. He was severely wounded at the Battle of the Bulge, in Belgium and received the Purple Heart. He spent time recovering from his injuries in the United States and was honorably discharged in 1945. After the service he entered Moorhead State College, Moorhead, MN.

Dewey was united in marriage to Beverly Babler on December 26, 1954 in the parsonage at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead, Minnesota. He worked for many years at the Welu Dental Laboratory in Fargo. They resided in Moorhead, Fargo, South Twin Lakes, and Borup. After his retirement he worked part time for four years for the Ada Dental Lab.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, VFW, and Disabled American Veterans. He belonged to the American Legion Drum Corps for many years and the Nightriders Snowmobile Club. He was also a member of NeeGonNee Lutheran Church at Roy Lake and associate members at Winchester Lutheran Church in Borup. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry, refinishing furniture and reading. He was very active in community events. He was an excellent wood carver. His specialty was birds.

He is survived by his loving wife, Beverly, sisters and brothers: Colleen Lazarz, Yvonne Johnson, Victor R. Walsberg, Carol Jerde, Judy Badgely, Ralph Walsberg, Jeanette Walseth, Virginia Anderson, JoAnn Wold, Dennis Walsberg, Mary Ellen Johnson, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Russell Walsberg; and a sister Gertrude Mason.

Memorial service: Saturday, May 26, 2012, at 11:00am, in Winchester Lutheran Church, Borup, MN.

Visitation: Friday, May 25th from 5:00-7:00pm at Fredrikson Funeral Home, Ada, MN.

Burial: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
